Atheist Authors: Books About Atheism
Atheist books are, naturally, growing in proportion with popular representation. Especially in times when it’s still difficult in many circumstances to comfortably and plublically express atheist thinking, it’s nice to have books to read. These authors help develop an important area of thought in a strange state of neglect within the American public school system. It seems that when God stopped being taught, teaching not-God didn’t take its place, and all that remains in non-religious schools are very objective takes on practices, the most superficial brushes with genuine belief.
It’s important to acknowledge the role religion still plays in our society, to help give a footing to address issues critical to our long term social survival. Religion has been damaging enough already in an eras before nuclear codes.
I’ve read only portions of these, the others up by recommendation. I’ll be posting reviews as often as I can. Books will be on atheism or religion, about atheists or important figures affecting atheism, or other books not necessarily directly about atheism, but about core topics that form an important foundation in thinking about the world (that happens to be non-religious), like On the Origin of Species, which, to me, any serious, concerned, and proud atheist ought to have read.
